In compliance with directives from the United States Department of Education and from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) seeks to respond to, and to resolve in a timely manner, all complaints by currently enrolled students.
A complaint is a written expression of dissatisfaction or formal allegations against the university, its units, its employees (including faculty and staff), and its students.
Currently enrolled students who have a complaint first should try to work out the problem by discussing it with those persons most involved with the issue. Students should attempt to resolve their complaints with the persons involved in an honest and mature manner. Many complaints can be resolved when a student makes an appointment with an MSOE employee (either faculty or staff employee) and honestly communicates the student’s frustrations or concerns.
A student should not attempt to resolve a complaint with the persons involved in cases concerning sexual misconduct allegations – see the exclusions below, and see also the MSOE Sexual Misconduct Policy for details.
If a student’s complaint cannot be resolved by meeting with those persons involved with the issue, then the student is encouraged to pursue formal reporting procedures. MSOE already has in a place an academic grievance procedure (see “Grievance Process” in the MSOE Undergraduate Academic Catalog) and a non-academic grievance procedure (see the Student Life page on the Campus Intranet - login may be required).
Currently enrolled students also have the option of filing a formal written complaint by downloading, completing, and submitting the Milwaukee School of Engineering Student Complaint Form:
The MSOE Student Complaint Form features complete details concerning MSOE’s Student Complaint Policy and Procedures, including instructions and timelines.
Types of Complaints EXCLUDED from this Reporting Procedure
