Position: Staff
Department: Computer & Communication Services Department
The Director is responsible for supervising the department which includes the management and planning of the University's technical needs and requirements for information systems, both hardware and software, communication systems, networks, web support, student technology program and office reproduction systems. He/she will supervise a staff of approximately 14 plus some student employees and will prepare and manage the departmental budget to include acquisition of required hardware and software.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages all aspects of the university's information, communication, printing and copying systems and audio-visual services.
- Manages the university's student technology program that includes issued laptop computers, resident software and adherence to policy regarding fees, user support, repairs, replacements, etc. Recommends makes, model and specifications of laptops, related software and negotiates terms and pricing with accepted vendors.
- Coordinates the planning and implementation of any additions, deletions or modifications to the information and computer systems.
- Manages and recommends changes/upgrades to the university's telephone systems. Maintains internal control over telephone usage data to minimize abuse.
- Develops and maintains vendor relationships related to the purchase of all hardware and software services and products.
- Oversees all programming, training and technical functions to ensure that they are providing the user community quality service.
- Continual interface with user groups, including faculty, students and administrative staff to ensure that all systems are meeting the needs of users.
- Administers and revises when necessary, policies and procedures to ensure effective operation and security of the schools information systems.
- Prepares and manages the department budget.
Educational Requirements
- Must possess a bachelor's degree preferably in Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems or a closely related area. Advanced or continuing education training essential.
- Must have at least five years experience working and managing in a data and information computer operation, including communication systems.
- Must have proven supervisory experience with technical human resources.
Skills and Physical Requirements
- Must have the ability to diagnose and solve problems related to computer hardware, software and information systems.
- Must have professional presentation skills
- Must have superior communication skills to serve, advise and react with numerous academic, operating and administrative department personnel and department heads.
- Must be able to provide vision and future direction to the university's management team related to various information systems, hardware and operating platforms.
