The Director of STEM Initiatives has two primary roles: to provide state leadership in the area of STEM to help increase student interest in STEM related fields and to track the progress influenced by these efforts, and to provide leadership and vision for pre-college programming activities supporting the identification of prospective students and their enrollment to MSOE.
Specifically, the selected candidate will:
• Develop and implement a clearly defined plan that aligns with the goals and objectives of the university.
• Develop effective means to communicate with the MSOE community about upcoming pre-college events and identify volunteers for pre-college activities.
• Leverage existing outside pre-college programs to gain better traction with teachers, coordinators and participants to foster the admission process: Science Bowl, OP Conference, Summer Programs, First Robotics, PLTW and Engineering Discovery Days.
• Develop a “Stembassador” program to help support non-MSOE school functions while keeping MSOE name in front of participants.
• Develop and maintain relationships with key feeder programs
• Assist with Open Houses, Campus Visit Days, Shadow Days, Presidential Scholarship Weekend, etc.
• Function productively at the strategy level to help set the vision and direction for maximizing pre-college programming.
The selected candidate will have a master’s in education with a bachelor’s degree in a field supportive of creating appropriate programming: Science, Math, Engineering or STEM.
