The Field
Computer engineers are at the forefront of knowledge in arguably the most innovative professional discipline in the world. Beyond desktop and laptop computers, things like iPods, Blackberrys, TiVo, DVRs, mp3 players, anti-lock brakes, satellite radio, cell phones, avionics, “smart” credit cards and countless other 21st-century products exist today thanks to the creativity, knowledge and skills of computer engineers.
The Program
MSOE’s B.S. in Computer Engineering program integrates a necessary balance between hardware and software by coupling electrical engineering hardware topics with computer science software subjects. Additionally, students enjoy a relevant and forward-thinking curriculum as well as an abundance of hands-on work and complete impressive senior design projects. As a result, graduates possess the wide range of skills—the knowledge, the ability to work in team settings and the understanding of ethical and societal implications of their work—necessary to function as engineers in the areas of embedded systems, embedded software, and computer systems.
The MSOE Advantage
The hallmark of the computer engineering program has always been our impressive faculty. They are industry experts and respected scholars who have a deep passion for teaching motivated students. Another distinctive aspect of the program are the facilities you will enjoy, which are as modern and relevant as you will find at any university in the country. Additionally, the program offers the benefits of longstanding partnerships with business and industry leaders, as well as a comprehensive focus on student support.
The Results
Employers come back to MSOE year after year because of the level of knowledge, skills and professionalism our computer engineering graduates bring to the workplace. Their achievements are impressive, and you will find them working in exciting positions, with some of the most respected companies and organizations across the country. In fact, recent graduates of the computer engineering program enjoyed a 93% placement rate (2011-12) in their field with an average annual starting salary of $63,380.
