I like to hire MSOE SE Graduates because...

You have probably heard that the one thing that distinguishes the Software Engineering (SE) program at MSOE from its peer institutions is its relevant and innovative curriculum that has been developed in close conjunction with industry professionals. This is possible because of a strong industry advisory committee (IAC).

The SE IAC advises our program faculty on industry trends and needs and helps to keep the curriculum up to date . Most industry members are engineering managers or senior engineers and have a close familiarity with what their company needs from a software engineering graduate. Student members of the committee broaden its perspective by raising issues of importance to their class and participating in committee discussions. In response to our question of "I like to hire MSOE SE Graduates because..." in October 2008, the IAC members responded with the following answers.  I wanted to share them with you.

• They are top notch candidates with a solid theoretical base from which to grow.
• Our company has an increased appreciation of the need for the specialized disciplines within software development, including design, architecture, and engineering. MSOE graduates have the training and talent for these disciplines.
• I know they've been through a tough, focused process and survived. I know they will have a good base in both development and learning skills to build on as well as good core software process skills and troubleshooting.
• They come out of school fully prepared to work on projects.
• They are committed to producing high quality software.
• They are the most talented and capable students in southeastern Wisconsin. Our success rate with them far exceeds other local universities.
• They have a high level of SE knowledge combined with practical implementation, not just book smarts.
• The students' values seem different than other schools. There is a certain passion you see in them for technology that fits well with our needs.
