MSOE has devised a curriculum that introduces you to your major during your freshman year while gradually building on the complexity of projects that you'll create to put your skills into practice.
At the end of this four-year program, you will know all the fundamentals of engineering and be able to apply them to new situations that arise on the job. You also will be well equipped to pursue graduate school if that is your preference.
Your freshman year
Begin learning about mechanical engineering your freshman year. You'll also
get a broad-based education focused on mathematics,
basic sciences and the humanities.
Your sophomore year
This transition year takes you from broad-based general education to the
highly-focused mechanical engineering courses through advanced studies in
mathematics and science, and a
course sequence in engineering mechanics and systems.
Your junior year
You'll focus in-depth in each of the three branches of technical
specialization through the use of the energy sequence,
the materials/manufacturing sequence and the mechanics sequence.
Your senior year
You'll apply what you
learned in the first three years to the design of mechanical and thermal
systems, with special emphasis on
technical electives and the senior design project. This group project puts
your knowledge and skills to the test and results in a tangible product you
can be very proud of.
