The Field
Are you
good at organizing? Do you like computers and the idea of helping lead a
business?
Businesses
are desperate for workers who are skilled at maintaining, controlling and manipulating information and
data. Those who manage the information system for a company improve
productivity and the quality of work life while paving the way for technically
oriented products, services and
information. They are skilled computer users and savvy business leaders.
The Program
The Bachelor of Science in
Management Information Systems (MIS) program provides you with a combination
of business, management and
information technology preparation needed to succeed in today's dynamic
business environment.
The program will expose you to all
of the core technologies and languages of computing. You'll "learn by doing"
the very things that industry demands of its developers. Our laptop program for full-time students* makes
the resources you need available on a 24-hour basis.
The program also allows you to
focus your studies by selecting course work in one of the following
concentrations:
- Computer Systems Infrastructure - networking, systems analysis, systems design, operating systems and security; and
- Application Development and Support - advanced computer programming, Internet and World Wide Web applications, business process analysis, software integration and implementation, database development and information technology product management.

Program Options
Several completion options are available for the MIS program. Traditional students can apply and be admitted as MIS majors their freshmen year. The program can be completed in four years following the full-time model program track.
Two options are available for working professionals and those who have an associate's degree or two years of previous college experience. The part-time option offers all classes during the evening. The full-time working professionals option can be completed in two years with classes offered during the evening and by blended Internet.
MSOE Advantage
MSOE
students are taught by professors who have academic credentials and have "been there" in the business
world. Extensive industry experience and on-going consulting experience keeps
them up-to-date in their field ... and they bring those experiences into the
classroom to you.
And you
will never be taught by a teaching assistant. We deliver small classes taught
by faculty with business experience.
The same
applications-oriented approach you find in the engineering fields, you'll
also find in the business classroom and high-tech labs.
The Results
A MIS degree from MSOE's Rader School of Business is well respected and sought after by employers - as evidenced by a 100% placement rate in 2011-12.
