• Chapter 1606 Montgomery GI Bill - Selected Reserve

The Montgomery GI Bill - Selected Reserve program may be available to you if you are a member of the Selected Reserve. The Selected Reserve includes the Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve and Coast Guard Reserve, and the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard.  You may be entitled to receive up to 36 months of education benefits. Eligibility criteria can be found at the Montgomery GI Bill - Selected Reserve Web site.

1. Complete VA Form 22-1990, Application for Educational Benefits which can be obtained from MSOE's Financial Aid Office in CC-431, it can be downloaded from the GI Bill Education Forms Web page, or you can complete it online here.  If you submit your application online, please print it out and turn it into MSOE's Veteran's Certifying Official.

OR

If you have previously received VA educational benefits, you will need to complete VA Form 22-1995, Request for Change of Program or Place of Training Form which can be obtained from MSOE's Financial Aid Office in CC-431, it can be downloaded from the GI Bill Education Forms Web page, or you can complete it online at the DVA VONAPP Web site .  If you submit your application online, please print it out and turn it into MSOE's Veteran's Certifying Official.

2. Submit a copy of your DD Form 2384-1, Notice of Basic Eligibility to MSOE's Financial Aid Office in CC-431. 
3. Complete and submit MSOE's Veteran's Education Benefits worksheet which is available for download and printing or a copy may be picked up in the MSOE Financial Aid Office. This must be done every academic year if you wish to have us certify your benefits for the year.
4. Complete and submit a Department of Veteran Affairs' Veteran Information Worksheet which is available for download and printing or a copy may be picked up in MSOE's Financial Aid Office. This must be done once at the beginning of your academic career at MSOE if you wish to have us certify your benefits for the year and anytime after that you change benefits or credit load.

The monthly benefit paid to you is based on the type of training you are in.  If you are attending school, your payment is based on your training time.  For payment charts, please visit GI Bill Education Benefit Payment Rates.

The VA will send you a benefits award letter once they have confirmed your eligibility.  In order to receive the funding listed in that award letter you will be required to certify your enrollment with the VA each month online at Web Automated Verification of Enrollment  or by Interactive Voice Response (IVR) by calling 877-823-2378.
