Student Employment / Work-study

The student employment program is designed to promote the part-time employment of students who are pursuing a course of study at MSOE. Most student employment positions are in the form of Federal Work-study. Work-study, because it is federally funded, is included in the total financial aid package you have been awarded by the Financial Aid Office. If you have not been awarded Federal Work-Study and are interested in employment, please contact the Financial Aid Office to see if you may qualify.

Even if you have not been awarded Federal Work-Study, feel free to use this page to assist you in your employment search.

Steps to Obtaining Student Employment:

  1. Determine if you are eligible for Federal Work-Study
To be eligible for Federal Work-Study you must have filed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and have federally determined financial need. If you qualify for work-study it will be listed on you financial aid award offer. If you have not been awarded work-study, please contact the Financial Aid Office to see if you may qualify. If you don't qualify for work-study and wish to pursue student employment, please follow the steps below.
  2. View the current job openings
Whether you have been awarded Federal Work-Study or not, you can view the current job postings to search for the job(s) you are interested in.
  3. Complete a Student Employment Application
When you find a job you are interested in, please complete the Student Employment Application. You will then want to mail or email your application to the supervisor listed on the job posting.
  4. Interview for the position(s) you are interested in
After submitting the application, the hiring supervisor may contact you to set up an interview. You may wish to contact the supervisor as well to set up an interview.
  5. Complete hiring paperwork
After you are hired you must complete a Student Contract. This must be signed by yourself and your supervisor. Once the contract is complete, bring it to the Human Resource Office. At this point you will need to complete an I-9 and a W-4; therefore you will need to bring your social security card and drivers license with you. Please note that you cannot start working before all of this paperwork is completed.
