Raider Reception and Gala honoring Robert A. Wagner ’64

Robert Wagner ’64 has been connected to MSOE since before he could even walk. His father Adolph attended the university before serving in World War I and was a lifelong friend of Karl Werwath, MSOE’s second president and the founder’s son. While he was a student at MSOE, Wagner would even occasionally eat lunch with President (Karl) Werwath. After graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering, Wagner held a variety of positions before joining R&B Wagner in 1968. His father started the company, which creates and manufactures innovative metal products for the fabricating industry, in 1954.
Wagner is passionate about volunteering and helping the community. In addition to serving as an MSOE Regent since 2002, he is a board member of the Salvation Army of Wisconsin, is the finance committee chair of the Wisconsin Arts Board and serves on the acquisitions committee at the Milwaukee Art Museum, among other engagements. “I believe in giving back to the community,” said Wagner.
In his free time, Wagner competes in vintage classes with his 1960 Austin Healey and 1958 Devin Chevrolet. He also is an art and history buff, collecting Civil War memorabilia and American folk art from the 18th and 19th centuries. He enjoys traveling with his wife of 45 years, Jo Ann. They have two grown daughters, Laura and Susan, and one grandson, Robert.

Milwaukee Mills: A Visual History
The Grohmann Museum at MSOE is home to the world’s most comprehensive art collection dedicated to the evolution of human work during the past 400 years. The museum welcomes visitors to three floors of galleries where a core group of the Eckhart G. Grohmann Collection Man at Work is displayed.
Special exhibitions:
The Emperor’s Private Paradise: Treasures from the Forbidden City
The Emperor’s Private Paradise ushers in the Summer of China, so named because the museum will feature four exhibitions on Chinese art, offering a rare opportunity to view objects spanning 5,000 years of China’s history. The museum is one of only three in the world to present The Emperor’s Private Paradise.
This once-in-a-lifetime exhibition features more than 90 objects from the Qianlong Garden in Beijing, never before seen by the public. Murals, paintings, furniture, architectural elements, jades, and cloisonncafé reveal the life and vision of one of history’s most influential rulers, from a place largely cloaked in mystery, and will likely never leave China again.
