Using New Technology to Connect, Innovate and Drive Success
Summer in the City Workshop
Innovation in the Age of the Web is Innovation at the Speed of Thought. The web has become a participatory medium that uses a completely new set of collaborative tools collectively known as "Web 2.0". These collaborative tools are creating challenges as well as opportunities for 21st century leaders. This session will allow the participants to experience these technologies as well as discuss how leaders can use the tools be more competitive personally and professionally TODAY. It is important to realize that we are not studying the future, we are discussing the present.
The Leader's Web 2.0 tool kit includes Blogs, WIKIs, and Podcasts. These collaborative tools can be used internally for knowledge management purposes or as innovation development tools; externally, they can be used as web accessible knowledge bases for employees/associates, customers, or business partners. While organizations may use these tools themselves, their competitors, business partners, and customers are also using these tools. Organizations that do not incorporate these tools may be left behind the wave of collaboration and become anachronistic.
Another phenomenon is Social Media. Social media such as LinkedIn for professional networking as well as Facebook and MySpace are already making a profound impact on our society and business culture. Social Media is already being used internally by a number of organizations for networking among its employees/associates. Internal networking is becoming an excellent tool for developing a "Learning Organization" through sharing innovations, resources and values.
This session will examine in Real Time, specific existing examples of the following:
- Blogs for Customer Feedback and Corporate Executive Communication
- WIKIs for Product and Service Innovation
- RSS for Real Time Announcements of Knowledge Events and Corporate News
- Podcasts for Training and Education
- Linked In for Recruiting and Professional Networking
- Video Blogs for Customer Service and Support
- Enterprise Search for Internal Corporate Expertise Location
Hands
on opportunities to explore and discuss these tools in topic specific areas of
going green, healthcare, new product development and export management will
also occur.
