The afternoon will be filled with keynote speakers sharing innovative success stories and strategies from GE Medical and Ruud Lighting, a "hands-on" Web 2.0 workshop, and small group discussions with peers and faculty members in the areas of going green, export management, healthcare and new product development through creativity and innovation.
You will leave the afternoon with new technological tools, resources, and connections to drive success.
Agenda
The MSOE Rader School of Business invites you to join other alumni, current students, and faculty as we will explore how technology can be used to connect with others to accelerate innovation - with the ultimate goal of success at personal, organizational and even societal levels.
Workshop
Gene Wright '79, '86, Principal of Wright Innovation, Inc. and Adjunct Professor for the Rader School of Business will introduce you to the use of new Web
2.0 technology tools that can facilitate the production and spread knowledge and innovation. The Web 2.0 tool kit that Gene will discuss includes Blogs, WIKIs, and Podcasts. These collaborative tools can be used internally for knowledge management purposes or as innovation development tools; externally, they can be used as web accessible knowledge bases for employees/associates, customers, or business partners. While organizations may use these tools themselves, their competitors, business partners, and customers are also using these tools. Organizations that do not incorporate these tools may be left behind the wave of collaboration and become anachronistic.
After learning about Web 2.0, you will then have a hands-on opportunity to explore the tools with others who share common interests in the following areas.
- Export Management: "Creating Connections in A Flat World"
- Table facilitator: Paul D. Churchill, Director of the Milwaukee U.S. Export Assistance Center of the U.S. Department of Commerce (located in the Rader School of Business' Rosenberg Hall)
- Going Green: "Sustainability as a Business Model"
- Table facilitator: Terry Hoffmann, Adjunct Professor
- Healthcare as Dominant Industry: "Shift Happened"
- Table facilitator: Cindy Mand, Adjunct Professor
- New Product Development: "Using Creativity and Innovation"
- Table facilitator: Jim Friauf, Associate Professor
At each of the tables, you are welcome to discuss the topic, share ideas and explore the Web 2.0 technology tools. Along with a table facilitator that has content knowledge, MSOE students will be at each table to help you navigate selected Web 2.0 sites. Wireless laptops will be available; however you are welcome to also bring your own.
Keynote
Mike Barber '82, Vice President of Technology, Diagnostic Imaging and Chief Technology Officer Strategy for GE Healthcare, will close the session with a keynote address. You are sure to enjoy his energy and insights as he discusses how technology and innovation are united to drive success within a leading industry.
Reception
The
afternoon will conclude with a networking reception at the Grohmann Museum. You are encouraged
to come see the spectacular views of the bronze statues and the city while you connect with old and new MSOE friends. During the reception, President Herman Viets will award Alan Ruud '69, President of Ruud Lighting the 2008 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year. We will also honor the classes of 1958 and 1983. All are welcome to attend this event.
