Summer in the City Alumni Reunion

Return to MSOE for a weekend packed with opportunities for reuniting and reminiscing. Gather with fellow graduates for three fun-filled days of fabulous festivities, food and friendship.

Registration
8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Alumni Partnership Center (APC), 1120 N. Broadway
 
Check in at reunion headquarters in the APC to pick up your registration information, t-shirt and tickets for all events. Refreshments will be provided throughout the day.

Breakfast With the President
8:30–10 a.m., APC
 
President Hermann Viets, Ph.D., invites you to a light breakfast and a short presentation about the latest developments at MSOE. A question and answer opportunity will be included. Free.

Tours
10–11:30 a.m., departs from APC
 
Get reacquainted with campus as you are led on a pleasurable tour. A special stop will be at the President’s House! Free.

MSOE and MCGHSN Scholarship Luncheon
Noon, APC
 
Join graduates from Milwaukee County General Hospital and MSOE School of Nursing for a scholarship luncheon, specifically honoring the classes of 1958 (50 year anniversary) and 1983 (25 year anniversary). Proceeds from this event benefit the MSOE School of Nursing.

Following lunch, you will be able to tour the nursing school’s facilities, where you will learn about the intensive training in MSOE’s sophisticated labs enabling students and future nurses to integrate the use of technology along with sensitivity and caring.

Finally, hear Michael Barber ’82, MSOE Regent and GE Healthcare Vice President, Technology and Diagnostic Imaging and Chief Technology Officer, relate the integration of technology into the world of health care — all while enjoying MSOE’s beautiful new Grohmann Museum, home of the Eckhart Grohmann Man at Work collection.

Man at Work Collection
1–2:30 p.m., and 3–4:30 p.m, Grohman Museum
 
Enjoy four centuries of art during this in-depth look at Man at Work: the Eckhart G. Grohmann Collection. Man’s epic toiling, from tilling the earth and tanning hides to building bridges and running machines, is depicted in this comprehensive, 600 plus piece collection of paintings and bronzes. John Kopmeier, director of the museum, will lead the tour. Free.

Discovery World
1–3 p.m., departs APC
 
VThis interactive, experiential learning environment for technology, innovation and entrepreneurship is yours for the exploring. See labs, studios, interactive exhibits and an incredible aquarium! Depart from the APC promptly at 12:45 p.m. Transportation provided. $5.

1–5 p.m., Todd Wehr Conference Center
 
Explore how technology can be used to connect with others to accelerate innovation to gain success at personal, organizational and even societal levels. This event includes speakers, a roundtable, workshop, keynote and a reception. Details available on the Rader School of Business Symposium page.


Alumni Association Annual Meeting
5 p.m., Alumni Partnership Center, 1120 N. Broadway
 
Meet your Alumni Association officers, learn what is planned for future alumni programs and events, and find out more about your own local alumni chapter. Officers for the 2008-09 term will be formally inducted at this meeting. Free.

Raider Reception
 
Unwind after a busy day of activities as you visit with other alumni and guests and enjoy hors d’oeuvres and beverages. During this reception we will bestow the annual Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award; and honor our special alumni, the graduates of the classes of 1958 and 1983. Free.
 
Distinguished Alumnus of the Year
Dr. Alan Ruud ’69, MSOE Regent, graduated from MSOE with a degree in electrical engineering. In 1982 he founded Ruud Lighting and currently is chairman and CEO. Ruud Lighting, located in Racine, Wis., is a manufacturer and worldwide direct marketer of industrial, commercial and residential lighting fixtures.

A professional engineer and lighting designer, Ruud is nationally recognized for his expertise in the lighting industry. In addition to numerous patents for his innovative designs, Ruud has received the following awards: Edwin F. Guth Distinguished Lighting Design Award, MSOE’s Pioneer Award, Governor’s New Product Award, Racine County Small Businessman of the Year Award, and the Wisconsin Entrepreneur Award. He serves on the Prairie School (Racine) and Johnson Financial Group Board’s. He also is the past president of the MSOE Alumni Association and currently Vice Chairman of MSOE.

Ruud received an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago and received an honorary doctorate in engineering from MSOE in 1998. He is currently married to Patty. He has two children, Cynthia and Christopher, and six grandchildren.

Baked goods, assorted juices and coffee will give you the energy to tackle a fun-filled day. Stop in for some camaraderie and croissants or take a coffee and cruller to go! Free.

Alumni Motorcycle Ride to Belgium, Wis.
9:30 a.m. departure from APC
 
Born to be wild? Travel along scenic back roads to Belgium, Wis., with the MSOE Murphy House as your destination for lunch. You must bring your own motorcycle to participate. $10 per person (lunch)

Kohler Co. Factory Tour and Design Center + Picnic at the Murphy House = One great time!
9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., departure from APC.
 
This outstanding factory tour in Kohler, Wis., is for anyone who’s ever wondered how their Kohler® bathtub or faucet was made. You’ll tour through the numerous buildings — pottery, brass building and foundry — that create everything from vitreous china lavatories to massive 6-foot cast iron tubs. Plus, visitors will learn about Kohler’s innovative Arts/Industry Program. Rounding out the visit will be time to spend in the Kohler Design Center. Then it’s a short jaunt down the road to the MSOE Murphy House in Belgium, Wis., located right on Lake Michigan’s shore. Enjoy a stroll along the beach or a game of bocce! Picnic boxed lunch and transportation will be provided. $15 adults, free for children 12 or younger.

Fiesta & Margarita Cruise
5:15 p.m., Edelweiss II Dock, 1110 N. Old World 3rd St.
 
In addition to sampling all things French at Bastille Days, enjoy some South of the Border flavors on this Margarita Fiesta cruise!
The Edelweiss II has an enclosed cabin and two outside decks for an outside experience. The enclosed cabin is air conditioned and/or heated and will keep you comfortable no matter what the weather.

The Margarita Fiesta Cruise is an hour and a half cruise that includes all-you-can-drink margaritas as well as a taco bar. A cash bar is available for the duration of the cruise, too.

All passengers must be 21 or older with valid ID to board this cruise! Refunds will not be given for anyone who cannot provide valid ID!

Meet at 5:15 p.m. (15 minutes prior to departure) at the Edelweiss II dock, a short walk from MSOE, at 1110 North Old World 3rd Street. $20 per person, includes food, beverages and cruise.

Class of 1958 Golden Anniversary Dinner
7 p.m. APC
 
Members of the class of 1958 and their guests are invited to join Dr. and Mrs. Hermann Viets for a special golden anniversary dinner. Reminisce with your classmates about life in the ‘50’s, recall the days spent in labs and classes, and celebrate your many accomplishments since graduation from MSOE! Cocktails and dinner will be served in the beautiful historic APC. Dietary restrictions may be accommodated. $20 per person.

Just off our campus, Bastille Days is a celebration of Milwaukee’s French founders and culture through music food, wine and a marketplace.
