Making a
gift to MSOE can be done in many ways. One way might be more helpful to you
at a particular time in your life than another. As you make financial plans,
we recommend that you consult with your attorney or financial advisor. Please
call the Development and Alumni Affairs office at (414) 277-7259 for more
information.
Outright Gifts
Gifts of Cash
A gift of cash is greatly appreciated and available for use by the university
immediately and, in most cases, is fully deductible for donors who itemize
their federal income taxes. Donations in the form of a check should be made
payable to MSOE.
Credit Card Gifts
Making a gift to the Annual Fund is easy and safe with a credit card. MSOE
accepts VISA, MasterCard and Discover. You can even set up payments of large
gifts to be spread out over the year.
You can now submit a gift online through the secure gift form.
Gifts of Securities
A gift of appreciated securities may help you reduce your income and estate
taxes in the long-term. These types of gifts may be deducted at full market
value on the date of transfer to the university. Please call the Development and
Alumni Affairs office at (414) 277-7259 for more information.
Gifts of Real Estate
The gift of real property such as a house, duplex or land can carry a
significant tax benefit. Should you choose to donate in this way, there are
many options available. If you have owned the
property for more than one year, you are entitled to a charitable deduction
equal to the full fair market value of the property. Please call the
Development and Alumni Affairs office at (414) 277-7259 for more information.
Deferred Gifts
The university can assist donors and their
families with many types of planned or deferred giving options; including
wills/bequests, trusts and pooled income funds.
The type
of agreement selected depends on a wide range of circumstances relating to
the donor's plans and objectives. The agreement will be individually designed
to provide the donor with the most attractive tax and income benefits.
Deferred giving agreements, and outright bequests to the university, may also
be established through a donor's will or trust.
A deferred gift allows a donor to make a sizeable gift to
the University and continue to receive income from the gift for his or her
lifetime, for the lifetime of another beneficiary, or for a specified number
of years. It can also generate a charitable income tax deduction in the year
of the gift, which, dependent on each tax situation, may be carried forward
for an additional five years.
For more
information on planned or deferred giving and which option may best suit your
individual needs, please call the Development and Alumni Affairs office at
(414) 277-7259.
Corporate Matching Gifts
Please
read about our Matching Gift Program here. For information
about your employer's matching gift program, please contact your human
resources office. It is necessary in all cases for the donor to secure the
proper matching gift forms from the corporation and to submit them to the university
in order for MSOE to receive the matching gift.
