Dan Harris
Entering his 13th
season at the helm, Dan Harris has transformed the Milwaukee School of
Engineering into a vibrant NCAA Division III program that offers it's
student-athletes 21 sports and has facilities that rival many Division I
programs.
Under Harris' watch, the Raiders have claimed 31 conference championships and produced numerous all-conference athletes, as well as academic and athletic All-American selections. He has significantly upgraded the level of the coaching staff, which has greatly improved the level of competition of the MSOE program. Six coaches have claimed Coach of the Year awards.
Harris has a long history as a collegiate soccer coach, including NCAA Division I stints at the Air Force Academy and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He has received four hall-of-fame honors and was inducted into the UWM Hall of Fame in May of 2006. He's chaired the NCAA Div. III Ice Hockey Committee and is currently a member of the NCAA Div. III Baseball Committee. In 2006, Harris became the Midwest region representative to the American Volleyball Coaches' Association men's volleyball Molten Invitational selection committee.
He was instrumental in the
founding of the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Conference and served as that league's
first president. In recognition of his efforts, the MCHA's championship trophy
has been named the Harris Cup in his honor.
In 2004, Harris oversaw the
opening of the Kern
Center, which provides a
home for many of the school's athletic teams and provides fitness facilities
for students, faculty, and the community.
Harris received a Bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut and his master's from the University of Southern California. His experience as an Athletic Director spans many levels; beginning with Nathan Hale-Ray High School in Connecticut, a stint at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Concordia University-Wisconsin before taking the top post at MSOE in 1995.
He and his wife Barbara have two adult children; Angela and Mark, and currently reside in Grafton, Wisconsin. The Harris' became grandparents in 2004 when Mark and his wife, Stefanie, had a daughter, Lexi.
