The MSOE men’s golf team claimed the Lake Michigan Conference championship with a 326-319=645 total, edging out second place Edgewood College by a single stroke. The win gives head coach Joe Meloy and the MSOE team its 10th LMC men’s golf championship.
MSOE placed four golfers in the top 10. Leading the way with an 81-77=158 total was sophomore Adam Michalak (Brookfield, Wis.). Michalak finished 14 strokes off the lead for a third-place finish. Freshman sensation Scott Maupin (Waukesha, Wis.) tied for fifth with a 161. Senior Mark Johnson (Kenosha, Wis.), playing the best golf of his career this year, shot a 163 for ninth place. Rounding out the top 10 for the tournament was MSOE freshman Chris Kopinski (Macherney, Ill.), who fired a 164.
MSOE not only took the top prize, but head coach Meloy earned LMC Coach-of-the-Year honors and Maupin was named Rookie of the Year. The MSOE Raiders also claimed three of the five LMC All-Conference team spots as Johnson, Maupin and Michalak were honored.
“The team played well against tough competition all fall,” said head golf coach Joe Meloy. “I’m very proud of the team’s effort to get this championship.”
