In
just MSOE’s first year in the Northern Athletic Conference, the men’s programs
finished in second place among the 12 conference schools in the All-Sports
Awards. Aurora University won the title for the second consecutive year,
however, MSOE had the most champions of any school with four. The Raiders won
titles in cross country, golf, and indoor and outdoor track & field. MSOE
had a second place finish in tennis and strong showings in basketball, baseball
and soccer.
“I am very proud
of our student-athletes and coaches for this outstanding performance,” said
MSOE Athletic Director Dan Harris. “For a school that used to hang near
the bottom of the old Lake Michigan Conference to do so well in our first year
in the much tougher NAC is a great tribute to everyone involved. Our
coaches have done a great coaching and recruiting job and off course, our
incredible facility, the Kern Center, has played a large role. Our
athletes are clearly students first but they also excel as athletes. I
congratulate them.”
The All-Sports Awards are based on both the
final conference standings of the regular season or championship, and the
conference tournament finishes in the sports that offer postseason tournaments
(baseball, basketball, soccer).
