When MSOE men's basketball player Jeremy Off (Hartford, Wis./Slinger HS) is in the game there is one thing you can count on; he has a shot that is far from being off. Off leads the NCAA Division III in field goal percentage (as of 01/20/2008), shooting a 72.8% field goal percentage, connecting on 85-of-118 shots taken from the field. A 6-4 junior center, Off has been dominating in games this season for the Raiders, averaging 16.3 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game. Head Coach Brian Miller has nothing but positive things to say about Off's game.
"Jeremy (Off) makes great shot selection", said Miller. "He works hard to get high percentage shots, whether offensive rebounds, finishing a fast break or just in the flow of our offense. He also has improved his perimeter shooting (10-of-18 from three point range)."
Off is one on the main reasons MSOE is 12-3 overall and 5-2 in conference play. In the Raider's three early season losses, Off either did not play or saw limited playing minutes due to a severe ankle injury. Despite the injury, this is Off's best season yet, highlighted by a 32-point game against Grinell on November 29, 2008. He also received national recognition by D3Hoops.com, chosen to their team of the Week for Dec. 29 - Jan. 4.
In Tuesday's game against Wisconsin Lutheran, Off was 5-for-8 from the field and had 16 points in the MSOE 88-76 victory. He currently leads the team in scoring (17.3), rebounding (7.8) and three-point field goal percentage (.526). Off and the Raiders are looking for their first Northern Athletic Conference championship and their second trip to the NCAA tournament.
