Rowing wins Lynch Cup at Dad Vail Regatta
Philadelphia --  The MSOE rowing team won the BRENDAN LYNCH CUP at the showcase college rowing event in the nation: the Dad Vail Regatta, held Saturday, May 9, on Philadelphia’s Schuylkill River. The MSOE Raiders’ Frosh/Novice Lightweight eight crew upset local favorite Delaware and top programs from Georgia Tech and Penn State on their way to an “Open Water” victory. This was the first national victory for MSOE’s second year program. MSOE‘s trophy winning team was comprised of the following student-athletes: (name, hometown/high school, position) Rachel Connon (Oswego, Ill./Oswego), Coxswain; Zach Parsons (Chicago, Ill./Lincoln Park), Stroke; Ed Adams (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North), Seat 7; Erik Winer (Marshfield, Wis./ Marshfield),Seat 6; Bill Boelk (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago), Seat 5; Mike Stanek (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago), Seat 4; Kyle Pace (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead), Seat 3; Zachary Holyszko (Libertyville, Ill./ Libertyville), Seat 2; and Dmitri Tchiakovski (Marengo, Ill./ Marengo), bow.

Coach Mike Bailey was extremely proud and excited for his team. “The kids had a great race and overpowered the competition,” said Bailey.


The other three MSOE boats did not fare as well at the event.  All three boats placed in the top 24 in their respective divisions and were all within three seconds of qualifying for the semifinal round. This was the 71st time the Dad Vail was held, with more than 120 registrants representing 67 colleges and universities from United States and Canada.
