Delany, VandeBoom, honored as MSOE Senior Scholar Athletes of the Year

Delany, VandeBoom, honored as MSOE Senior Scholar Athletes of the Year
VandeBoomAt the MSOE Athletic Banquet, Joel VandeBoom (Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington) and Heather DeLany (West Bend, Wis./West Bend West) were named MSOE Male and Female Senior Scholar- Athletes of the Year, respectively. The award is given to one male and female student-athlete that best exemplifies academic excellence, athletic achievement, and service to community and MSOE.

Joel VandeBoom, a 157 pound wrestler, finished his season as the most outstanding wrestler at the Northern Wrestling Association Championships. The four year letter winner also served as team captain for two years. He was also a conference champion twice during his four-year wrestling career.

Academically, he received national honors from the National Wrestling Coaches Association twice and was named to the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) District V All-Academic third team selection in 2008 and a first team selection for 2009. VandeBoom, an Architectural Engineering/Construction Management major, was also a member of the MSOE Student Athletic Advisory Committee where he served as co-treasurer this past year.


Architectural Engineering major Heather DeLany received honors in both cross country and track and field at MSOE. From 2005-2008 she was a four year all-conference selection in cross country. DeLany also ran four years of indoor and outdoor track and field, accumulating five Northern Athletic Conference titles in five events.

Academically, DeLany was a CoSIDA District V All-Academic second team honoree in 2008 and was on the Dean's List for five years. She he been involved at MSOE in the American Society of Civil Engineers, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, and the Tau Beta Nu Engineering Society, serving as President in 2008.
