Diederich sits in sixth in decathlon after first day of NCAA Outdoor Championships

After the first day of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, senior Kevin Diederich stands in sixth place in the decathlon. Five events of the decathlon took place Thursday at Ohio Wesleyan in Delaware, Ohio. Richard Roethel of Christopher Newport is in first with 3889 points while Diederich has 3398 points.
Diederich's best event on the first day was the 100-meter dash where he picked up 778 points after running the race in 11.38 seconds. He earned 725 points in the long jump after a mark of 6.62 meters. In the 400-meter dash, Diederich scored 675 points after a time of 53.15 seconds. He had 610 points in both the shot put and the high jump.
The final five events of the decathlon will take place Friday starting with the 110-meter hurdles at noon in Ohio. The other four events are the discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1500-meter run.
