Men's Track & Field season recap

The MSOE men's track and field team used solid performances from many numerous athletes to finish in second place at both the Northern Athletics Conference Indoor Championships and the Outdoor Championships during the 2010 season.

Freshman Jordan Werner (Lombard, Ill./Montini Catholic) was named Male Freshman Athlete of the Meet at the Outdoors Championships after he won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.45 and the 200-meter dash at 22.42. Werner along with freshmen James Franke (Wattenville, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South), Chris Neja (West Bend, Wis./West Bend West) and sophomore Mark Van Alstyne (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) combined to win the 4X400-meter relay with a time of 3:22.77.

Senior Zak Lutz (West Allis, Wis./Nathan Hale) won the 3000-meter steeplechase at 9:56.67 and finished second in the 5000-meter run. Sophomore Arthur Weborg (Fish Creek, Wis./Gibraltar) took the top spot in the long jump at 6.97 meters and also finished first in the triple jump at 13.74 meters. Sophomore Todd Krupa (Stevensville, Ont./Ridgeway Crystal Beach) won the pole vault at 4.20 meters while junior Michael Jasperson (Deer Park, Wis./Amery) was second in the hammer throw.

At the NAC Indoor Championships, MSOE's 4X400-meter relay team comprised of Werner, Franke, Neja and sophomore Tom Monteverde (Omro, Wis./Omro) placed first. Werner also won the 400-meter dash and finished third in the 200-meter dash.

The Raiders' distance medley squad finished second. Juniors Keen Unangst (Berlin, Wis./Berlin) and Cameron Rate (Theresa, Wis./Slinger) along with Neja and fellow freshman Alex Schroeder (Fall Creek, Wis./Fall Creek) ran a combined time of 11:04.55.

Another top finisher for the Raiders was junior Kevin Diederich (Kaukauna, Wis./Mary D. Bradford) who won the 55-meter hurdles race and was third in long jump. Jasperson came in second in the weight throw.

Earlier in the indoor season, the Raiders finished second at the Tadd Metzger Invite. Also, MSOE won the Warrior Relays which were hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran during the outdoor season.
