MSOE wrestling head coach Kevin Morin and assistant coach Mario Trafficante have been selected as Wisconsin Wrestling Coaches Association (WWCA) District 8 Co-Coaches of the Year.
MSOE senior Matt Olsen was named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-American team. The Algonquin, Illinois native is an Architectural Engineering and Construction Management major. Olsen won the Northern Wrestling Association (NWA) Championship at the 184-pound weight class. Also, Olsen finished fourth at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional.
The MSOE Wrestling team placed ninth at the Regional at Augsburg College. Junior Virgil Pope was named as an alternate qualifier for Nationals after his performance. Pope finished in fourth place at the 149-pound weight class. The Raiders logged 41.5 points at the event which was won by Augsburg.
The Raiders' squad finished second behind Lakeland College at the Northern Wrestling Association tournament at the Kern Center. MSOE had a number of grapplers finish second including freshman Austin Binish at 125, freshman Matt Ostovich at 133, freshman Josh Wengerter at 141, Pope at 149 and freshman Fernando Morales at 157.
