Westrich, Hosko highlight MSOE men’s soccer NAC honors

MILWAUKEE -- A number of players from the MSOE men's soccer were honored by the Northern Athletics Conference for their performance during 2010 season. Senior defender Joe Westrich (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) and junior midfielder Dan Hosko (Pittsburgh/Keystone Oaks) were both named to the First Team All-NAC.

Senior forward Rafael Arndt (Bad Oldesloe, Germany/Theodor-Mommsen) was selected to the Second Team All-NAC and senior midfielder Jimmy Burns (Appleton, Wis./Xavier) received NAC Honorable Mention status.

Defender Robert Nogle (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) and midfielder Patrick Gathof (Beloit, Wis./Beloit Memorial) were picked to the All-Freshman Team. Senior goalkeeper Jon Cerny (Delavan, Wis./Delavan-Darien) was named to the NAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

For Westrich, this is the second straight season being selected First Team All-NAC. He was also named NAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2009. Westrich anchored the Raiders' defense this season which logged five shutouts.

Hosko was recently named to the CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District Second Team for District 5. He led the Raiders with eight goals, nine assists and 25 points during the 2010 season. In the NAC, Hosko was second in assists, seventh in points and tenth in goals.

Arndt finished second on the team in goals (six) and points (15) and also had three assists while Burns was right behind Arndt in goals (five) and points (12) while logging two assists on the year. Gathof scored three goals and had two assists on the year while Nogle was a constant force for the MSOE defense.

Cerny started all 19 games in goal for the Raiders. In the NAC, Cerny finished fourth in shutouts (four), sixth in goals against average (1.81) and tenth in saves per game (3.68).

MSOE finished the season with an overall record of 10-9 and a NAC mark of 8-3. The Raiders were 7-1 in home matches. MSOE lost in the semifinals of the NAC Tournament to Aurora.
