Pope places 3rd at Concordia Open Tournament

Senior wrestler Virgil Pope finished third at the Concordia Open Tournament in Mequon, Wis. Saturday. Only two other wrestlers in MSOE history have placed higher at that tournament. Pope went 5-1 on the day at 157 pounds. His only loss came at the hands of Erick Hanson from Loras by the score of 6-4. Pope defeated Graham Youngs of Wabash 8-4 in the third place match.
Junior Jake Narveson went 3-2 at the event in the 149-pound weight class. Sophomore Austin Binish (133 pounds), senior David Swanson (165 pounds), senior Samuel Bramstedt (165 pounds), freshman Austin Karls (285 pounds) and sophomore Steven Nguyen (285 pounds) each were 2-2 on the day. Nguyen beat Karls in the wrestleback of the 285-pounds weight class to log his second win at the tournament.
The Raiders are back in action Friday, Dec. 3 as they host the MSOE Duals at the Kern Center.
