Big 3rd period helps No. 10 MSOE hockey beat Lake Forest

Junior forward Todd Krupa scored twice and juinior goaltender Connor Toomey made 32 saves as the No. 10 Raiders knocked off Lake Forest 5-3 Saturday night at the Kern Center to sweep the season series against the Foresters. The victory sets up a battle for the MCHA regular season crown next weekend in Milwaukee against Adrian.

The game was back and forth until the third period when MSOE scored three goals in a three-minute span. Sophomore forward Jordan Keizer put in his 22nd goal of the season at the 3:57 mark of the period to give the Raiders a 3-2 lead. Just over 30 seconds later, Krupa scored his first goal of the game. Then at the 6:41 mark of the third, Krupa netted another goal to put MSOE up by three.

The Raiders started the scoring when sophomore forward Mike Pao found the back of the net on a power play in the first period. After Lake Forest tied the game, sophomore forward Nick Gorup gave MSOE the lead back at the 7:40 mark of the second period on another power play. Freshman defenseman Michael Thompson had two assists in the game.

The Raiders (19-3-1, 16-1-1 MCHA) host Adrian Firday night and Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center to see who will be the MCHA regular season champion.
