MSOE track & field opens indoor season at Private College Invitational


The Raiders started their season this weekend in Kenosha at the Private College Invitational hosted by Carthage. The women's team placed fifth out of ten teams with 50.50 points while the men's squad finished sixth with 41.5 points.

Junior Emily Dieringer placed second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.54 and was second in the 55 meter hurdles after running the event in 9.27 seconds. Dieringer finished third in the pole vault at 3.20 meters.

Sophomore Karly Nehls placed fourth in the triple jump at 9.85 meters and was sixth in the high jump at 1.45 meters. Sophomore Katelyn Herrmann came in fourth in the 3000 meter run with a time of 11:08.31. Senior Svenje Claasen finished eighth in the 400 meter dash with a mark of 1:20.61. MSOE's distance medley team finished first with a mark of 14:59.76 and the Raiders' 4X200 meter relay team was fourth at 2:07.20.

On the men's side, the pentathlon started out the event as junior Kevin Diederich placed second with 3305 points. Diederich won the shot put portion of the pentathlon at 12.28 meters, the 55 meter hurdles at 8.03 seconds and the long jump at 6.60 meters. Sophomore Jordan Werner placed second in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.70 seconds.

In the 200 meter dash, senior Nathan Harwell was seventh (24.13) while sophomore Chris Neja was right behind him in eighth (24.19). Senior Cameron Rate placed sixth in the 5000 meter run at 16:20.44. Freshman Mike Cosentino was seventh in the 55 meter hurdles at 8.51 seconds and finished third in the pole vault at 3.96 meters. Freshman Matt Waech tied for fourth in the pole vaults at 3.81 meters.

Senior Alex Raver tied for fifth in the high jump at 1.82 meters. Senior Michael Jasperson finished fifth in the weight throw at 15.63 meters. MSOE's 4X400 meter relay team placed seventh (3:45.37) while the distance medley team was third at 11:35.39.

The Raiders will take part in the UW-Whitewater Invitational this Saturday at 10 a.m.
