Alverno takes Red Rivalry Cup

The MSOE women's basketball team was edged by Alverno 63-57 Saturday night in the first "Red Rivalry Cup" game between the two intracity rivals. Junior center Carol Cayo led the Raiders with 18 points and nine rebounds while sophomore forward Heather Miller had 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Cayo also blocked five shots.
MSOE was within two points with 30 seconds left in the game but couldn't pull any closer as the Inferno held on for the win. Junior guard Kathleen Collingbourne had eight points for the Raiders.
Next up for MSOE (7-10, 4-6 NAC) is Dominican Tuesday night at the Kern Center at 7 p.m.
