MSOE men’s soccer coach Banks earns 100th career victory

MILWAUKEE - MSOE head men's soccer coach Jimmy Banks recorded his 100th career victory Wednesday night as the Raiders knocked off Concordia-Chicago 3-2 in a Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) game at Time Warner Cable Stadium in Milwaukee. Sophomore forward Mariano Suaso-Rodriguez scored twice for the Raiders who are now 3-4-1 overall and 1-0 in the NAC as Wednesday was the team's first conference match of the season.

After the Cougars took a 1-0 lead early in the first half, sophomore Patrick Gathof tied the game when he was set up by senior Dan Hosko. Suaso-Rodriguez's first goal was assisted by senior Ben Sprecher at the 63:07 mark of the game. The game-winning goal was scored by Suaso-Rodriguez in the 72nd minute. Concordia-Chicago cut the lead to 3-2 with less than four minutes left but could not get any closer. MSOE out shot the Cougars 19-6 on the night.

Banks took over the top spot at MSOE in 1999. He was selected as NAC Coach of the Year in 2009 and also earned the honor twice when the Raiders were a member of the Lake Michigan Conference.

During his playing career, the Milwaukee native was a member of the United States National Team during the 1990 World Cup where he started two games as a defender. Before 1990, the United States had not competed in the World Cup since 1950. He later played for the Milwaukee Wave.

At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Banks was an NSCAA All-Midwest Region selection in 1985 and 1986 and was inducted into the UWM Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999. While at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, Banks was a National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) NAIA All-American selection in 1983 and also was an All-American forward at Custer High School.

MSOE hosts Rockford this Saturday, Sept. 24 at 3:30 p.m. once again at Time Warner Cable Stadium.
