Jordan's power, Hansen's shutout highlights MSOE baseball trip to Florida


The MSOE baseball season is underway and the Raiders went 3-6 at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. MSOE swept a doubleheader from Hanover on March 4. In the first game, senior Ben Hansen pitched a two-hit shutout and struck out two in seven innings of work. Freshman Jacob Roberts went 3-3 with a triple and a run scored while senior Emery Hull hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning. Junior Mike Ricciardi had the game's other two RBI.

In the fifth inning of the second game, freshman Derek Jordan hit a grand slam which ended up being the difference. Sophomore Ben Falls pitched five innings and allowed just one earned run to pick up the win.

The Raiders started the trip with a 7-3 victory over Franklin with sophomore Wes Stasik going 4-5 while freshman Tyler Magyar was 3-3 with three runs scored. Sophomore Sam Matthies went six innings as he earned the win. MSOE dropped a doubleheader against St. Vincent in which Hull was 3-3 with a home run, four RBI, three hits and three runs in the first game. Senior Jordan Opalewski was 3-4 while freshman Alex Luna had three RBI. In the second game, Roberts went 3-3 with a double and sophomore Walter Ziller knocked out a two-run homer in the fifth inning.

In MSOE's 9-5 loss to Rose-Hulman, Jordan hit a three-run home run in the third frame. Jordan also had three hits against Wartburg in a 8-1 defeat. The Raiders were swept by Widener in a doubleheader on March 3 where Matthies threw a complete game in the first game and allowed just one earned run. Jordan also homered in that game.

The Raiders will face Illinois Wesleyan and Washington University in St. Louis Saturday, March 19 as they continue their nonconference schedule.
