MSOE Athletic Hall of Fame
Entering his thirteenth season as the Raiders head
wrestling coach at the time of his induction, Kevin Morin's coaching career
at MSOE is unrivaled. With a record that boasts a remarkable nine team
championships, Morin has been instrumental in building the MSOE wrestling
program to its current NCAA Division III national acclaim and dominant
reputation. A coach whose integrity is equal to his expertise, Morin's
coaching style incorporates guidance and direction, simultaneously developing
his athletes' characters while shaping them into championship contenders.
Morin, who has brought MSOE an impressive five Lake Michigan Conference Team championships (1998, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005), also teaches his wrestlers that achieving a strong academic record is important in becoming a successful athlete at MSOE. He has coached an exceptional four consecutive National Wrestling Coaches Association NCAA III Academic All-American National Championship teams (2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005), fourteen National Wrestling Coaches Association NCAA III Academic All-American wrestlers, and one COSIDA First-Team Academic All-American athlete. Individually, his wrestlers have earned the division's highest honors, including two NCAA All-Americans, and Morin has led wrestlers in winning sixty tournament championships, including twenty-seven Lake Michigan Conference championships.
Coach Morin's devotion to his athletes and commitment to excellence has been recognized by his peers with multiple awards and honors. He has received the highly esteemed Lake Michigan Conference Coach of the Year award an astounding five times, was named NCAA III Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year in 2002, and in 2002 and 2003 was selected the Wisconsin Wrestling Coaches Association College Coach of the Year. Morin has also been honored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association with the prestigious NCAA III Bob Bubb Coaching Excellence award, for his athletic and academic achievements in the sport.
As of 2006, Morin continues to serve in his dual role as MSOE's head wrestling coach and director of human resources. His paramount achievements are powerful indicators of what the future holds for the MSOE wrestling program.
