Michael Surfus ’86

MSOE Athletic Hall of Fame

Some people give a team four years of blood, sweat and tears. Michael Surfus gave his university eight. Four were spent on the basketball court (1981-1982, 1983-1986), where he ended his career as MSOE's second all-time scorer, second in field goals, assists, rebounds and career steals, and fourth in free throws. If that wasn't enough, when MSOE and coach Bob Peterson came calling after graduation, he exchanged his uniform and sneakers for a suit coat and clipboard to help guide his beloved team as an assistant coach (1988-1992).

Surfus, an unselfish player who made teammates around him even better, was named team MVP in the 1984-1985 and 1985-1986 seasons. He also carried the title of team captain his final two years. Although a consistent offensive threat, Surfus' leaping ability enabled him to defend the other teams' star players. In his senior year, he was an LMC All-Conference selection.
