A four-year team captain,
Nate Weber was a model example of a team leader and skilled player for his
teammates. Selected All-Lake Michigan Conference Honorable Mention both his
freshman and sophomore seasons, Weber's hard work and commitment to improving
his game led to his selection for the most esteemed honor of All-Midwest
Region, an All-Lake Michigan Conference 1st Team pick for two
consecutive years and a remarkable senior season. During his last season as a
Raider, Weber led his team in most offensive categories, was named MVP and was
nationally ranked in two NCAA Division III categories, 8th in
batting average with a .492 average and his .598 on base percentage ranked 10th.
A proficient centerfielder,
Weber was also well-known for his powerful hitting ability. During his senior
season he was chosen as the Lake Michigan Player of the Week. The April 29,
1997, summary of his performance described him as having "toted a blistering
bat ... tallying 13 hits in 20 at bats for a .650 average, .696 on-base
percentage, and a 1.100 slugging percentage ... 12 RBI's, 6 runs, and 1 homerun."
He also led the Lake Michigan Conference in
stolen bases his freshman season, and in his sophomore season, he led the
conference in home runs and batting average.
Weber's achievements and
positive influence was a force that helped build Raiders baseball to a strong
program in the 1990s.
