MSOE Athletic Hall of Fame
As a four-year starter (1976-1979) and team leader, Martin set a high standard for his teammates to follow. His work ethic and steady improvement on his own game reflected on the rest of the team and initiated MSOE's string of six consecutive conference titles.
Martin's positive attitude created strong team chemistry and directed the team toward a winning approach. As a team captain his junior and senior year, he led MSOE to its first two conference titles.
A good contact hitter who could also hit for power, Martin boasted a career batting average of over .350. He was selected All-Conference twice and earned All-District honors his senior season. That year he was selected team MVP, was third in batting average and led MSOE in home runs, triple and runs batted in. The positive example Martin set has been credited as one of the main factors in MSOE's successful baseball teams of the late 1970s and early 1980s.
