MSOE Athletic Hall of Fame
Shari Gorr-Hess was an exceptional four-sport varsity athlete during her college career, but as a basketball player, she was a record setter. At the time of her graduation, Gorr held the record as the MSOE women's basketball all-time highest scorer with an amazing 1,535 career points. A threat on the court, she was also a leader of the team in free throw percentage for three consecutive years and leading rebounder her junior year. Gorr was awarded Lake Michigan Conference All-Conference Honorable Mention her freshman year and All-Conference her junior and senior seasons. An influential leader, Gorr was named captain her senior season. During her four year tenure, the women's basketball team evolved into a competitive team and Gorr's leadership and achievements were instrumental in the program's change.
A multitalented athlete, Gorr was also a three year letter-winner in softball and played two seasons of varsity volleyball and golf. She was selected as the softball team captain her junior and senior years, All-Conference Honorable Mention her sophomore year and All-Conference her junior and senior years. In volleyball, Gorr received team recognition as Freshman Player of the Year and Digger of the Year her freshman season.
Gorr set a precedent for athletic and academic success. She was awarded the esteemed MSOE Senior Scholar-Athlete award, an elite honor granted to only one female senior student-athlete per year. She also received the Alumni Association Student Achievement award in recognition of her strong academic record.
Shari Gorr's great accomplishments were significant in elevating the level of the women's basketball program. Her record represents excellence in MSOE women's athletics.
