Brian GibboneyHead Coach Brian Gibboney

As the MSOE men's volleyball program moves into the new Continental Volleyball Conference in 2012, head coach Brian Gibboney continues to lead the program to be one of the nation's premier NCAA Division III programs.

Gibboney, head coach at MSOE since 2004, led MSOE to the school's best season ever in 2010, a tenth place national ranking among Division III teams and a 15-4 record against Division III opponents. Gibboney is the longest tenured men's volleyball coach at MSOE and has the most wins of any men's volleyball coach at the school.

Gibboney has coached in the collegiate ranks since 1994, gaining head coaching experience in 2001, when he directed both the men's and women's volleyball teams at Dominican University (Ill.). In 2002, Gibboney was recognized as the Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference Coach of the Year for the women's team. Before accepting the position at MSOE, he directed the women's volleyball program at Triton College (Ill.), while also coaching the boy's team at Marist High School (Ill.) to regional success. The Huntingdon, Pa. native began his collegiate coaching career in 1994 as an assistant for the NCAA Division I women's program at Rider University in New Jersey. He helped lead the team to the NCAA Tournament after it captured the school's first Northeast Conference Championship that season and was a part of three consecutive conference titles overall. As head coach at MSOE, Gibboney received the 2006 Don Shondell Award, given by the Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association for excellence in promoting and supporting volleyball in the Midwest.

A graduate of Rider University with a bachelor of science in business administration, he also serves as MSOE's Sports Information Director. For the past six years, he was recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, receiving the Midwest region Grant Burger award for NCAA Division III Sports Information Directors. The award honors sports information directors for their work and dedication in promoting the sport of men's volleyball.

As the Raiders enter the Continental Voleyball Conference in 2012, he serves as the conference Sports Dnformation Director, also playing an integral part in designing the new website. He also serves as the Northern Athletic Conference's liaison for the sports information directors committee.

Since 2006, Gibboney has provided articles for the American Volleyball Coaches association's magazine Coaching Volleyball. They have also been reprinted in the AVCA's newsletter, Power Tips. Topics included serve receive, defense, blocking basics and setting skills.

Gibboney holds coaching certification from the United States Volleyball Association (USAV) and serves as an evaluator and tryout lead for the USAV High Performance program in the Midwest. Since 2007, he serves as a team coach and instructor for the USAV High Performance Developmental Camps held throughout the United States. Since 2009, Gibboney has been a head coach of USAV HP Continental and A2 Select teams which participate at the HP Championships in July. His 2009 Continental Red team placed second in the boy's national youth division.

Brian and his wife, Wanda Maeso-Falero, reside in Shorewood, Wis.
