MSOE men's golf earns All-Academic status

For the second straight season, the MSOE men's golf team has received All-Academic Team recognition for the 2010-11 season from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Teams that garner this honor have team GPAs of 3.0 or better. To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors a college of university must submit the grade points earned and hours attempted for each player on its official squad list for the academic year.

The Raiders competed in the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship in Greensboro, N.C. for the second time in three years this past spring and finished 25th at the tournament. They are the first MSOE athletic team to make a second appearance in an NCAA tournament. The Raiders trailed conference foe Edgewood by ten strokes entering the two-day Northern Athletics Conference Spring Automatic Qualifier Meet in April. Behind a 36-hole team score of 629, MSOE defeated Edgewood by eight strokes in the four-day combined event to earn a spot in the NCAA Championship. Junior Dane Zachman was the medalist of the spring qualifier portion of the event with a 36-hole score of 144, shooting an even par to pace the field.

The 2011 fall season begins at the Edgewood College Fall Classic Friday, Sept. 2 at the Glen Erin Golf Course in Janesville, Wis.
