Cayo reaches semis at NAC Individual Tournament

Senior Carol Cayo was 3-1 at the Northern Athletics Conference Women's Tennis Individual Tournament as she made the semifinals at the event. Cayo started the tournament with a second round victory over Taylor Storbakken of Edgewood 6-3, 6-3. In the third round, Cayo knocked off Wisconsin Lutheran's Alyssa Strangstalein 6-3, 6-1. Cayo bested Elizabeth Nelson of Dominican 6-0, 6-2. In the semis, Cayo fell to eventual singles champion Kaitlyn Strehlow 6-1, 6-1.
Senior Samantha Pekarscik won her first round match against Jessica Segalla of Rockford 6-0, 2-6, 14-12. Pekarscik fell to Strehlow in the second round. Also in the second round, freshman Marly Trier was defeated by Lakeland's April Schmitz 6-4, 3-6, 10-5.
On the doubles side, senior Marguerite Wellstein and junior Heather Miller won their first round match against Ashley Shall and Anna Savio of Benedictine 8-3. Wellstein and Miller lost in the second round 8-4 to Ann Goyke and Rebecca Heczko from Marian. Cayo and Trier were defeated by Nelson and Kornelia Nowaczyk of Dominican 8-3.
The Raiders will face Dominican on Tuesday, May 1 in the NAC Team Tournament.
