No. 10 MSOE hockey gets 7-2 victory over Lake Forest in MCHA First Round


Junior defenseman Nathan Brunk and junior forward Jordan Keizer each scored two goals as the No. 10 Raiders defeated Lake Forest 7-2 in the first game of the MCHA First Round playoff series Saturday night in Milwaukee. Jordan Keizer also added two assists on the night. 

Brunk started the scoring with a tally at the 6:52 mark. Freshman forward Josh Keizer capitalized on MSOE's first power play with his 14th goal of the season. Jordan Keizer's first goal of the night turned out to be the game-winning score with about five minutes left in the first.

The Raiders scored three more times in the second period with senior forward Kyle Smith putting MSOE up 4-0 at 8:21. Brunk's second goal came on a power play later in the period. Freshman forward Cole Gibson found the net for the 13th time this year with 32 seconds left in the second.

After two goals from the Foresters in the third, Jordan Keizer netted his seventh short-handed goal of the season at 15:37. No one else in the nation has more than four short-handed goals during the 2011-12 campaign. He has now 21 goals on the year. 

Sophomore forward Austin Grosvenor logged two assists while senior goalie Connor Toomey made 26 saves to pick up his 20th victory this season.

MSOE (20-5-1) faces Lake Forest at 2 p.m. Sunday to finish the playoff series. The winner of the series advances to the Harris Cup Four which is next weekend in Adrian, Mich.
