In the first match to determine the winner of the Red Rivalry Cup for women's soccer, MSOE defeated Alverno 4-1 Saturday afternoon in Milwaukee.
Sophomore Paula Bohl gave the Raiders 1-0 lead on a pass from senior Melanie Monreal less than two minutes into the game. Monreal scored when she was set up by senior Jamie Janczak at the 11:08 mark of the match. Senior Jessica Axt netted her 25th goal of the season in the 27th minute. Axt had the national lead for goals per game entering this week. Assists on Axt's goal were credited to Bohl and freshman Gabbie Pung.
After Alverno scored their only goal of the game, Pung finished the scoring at the 81:54 mark with her tenth goal of the year. Janczak picked her 11th assist on the year on that goal. Senior Emma Lumpe and freshman Emily Jakubiak each played a half in net for the Raiders.
MSOE (9-4, 6-1 NAC) hosts Edgewood Wednesday at Time Warner Cable Stadium in Milwaukee.
