Mens Basketball drops Otterbein in overtime, advances to Ballenger Championship

Westerville, Ohio --The MSOE men’s basketball team surprised host Otterbein, taking the win in overtime 79-77 in the first round of the Smokey Ballenger Tournament. MSOE freshman Austin Stueck led all scorers with 22 points and was 4-for-8 from beyond the three point arc.

The host Cardinals had the game in hand with 11 seconds remaining, but the Raiders guard John Cording hit a running layup off the glass with just four ticks on the clock to send the game into overtime. In overtime, the lead changed hands four times before MSOE tied and then took the lead for the final time thanks to Cording’s made two free throws to claim a 78-77 lead with 32 seconds on the clock. Otterbein’s C.J. Julian was fouled and sent to the charity stripe with three seconds remaining. Julian missed both foul shots and the Raider’s Garrison Glowniak came away with the rebound before getting fouled with two seconds remaining in the game. Glowniak hit the second shot of a two-shot foul giving MSOE a two-point lead. Otterbein turned the ball over with one tick left on the clock sealing MSOE’s win.

The Raiders (6-4) face Trine University (7-3) in the Ballenger Tournament with a tip off time of 8pm Eastern (7pm – Central). You can follow the audio broadcast here. Live stats are also available by clicking here.
