Rowing places third at prestigious Milwaukee River Challenge

Milwaukee - The MSOE Raiders eight man crew survived a Purdue-laden race to finish third in the Open Men's 8+ contest at the Milwaukee River Challenge Saturday.

The Milwaukee Rowing Club won the race with a time of 16:23.31 (min/sec.), followed by Purdue's number one boat in second (16:44.07) and MSOE (16:49.11) chasing in third place overall. Among the field of nine boats, the team was seeded fifth and surpassed many of the team's expectations.

"The MSOE Oarsman came a long way in a very short time this fall to trade punches with a powerhouse team like the University of Purdue," said head coach Chuck Stollenwerk. "Our varsity eight man boat has tons of untapped speed. This was the best finish yet for MSOE in the Milwaukee River Challenge.  As long as we are making forward progress, I am pleased."

The MSOE crew was comprised of Zach Parsons, Ben Lang, Luke Engebretson, Dave Taylor, Curt Albrecht, Devin Pettis, Ryan Lowery, Mike Cerny and coxswain Dan Cedeno.
