Senior forward Kyle Smith netted a hat trick on Senior Night but Northland came back from down 4-1 to defeat No. 13 MSOE 5-4 in overtime at the Kern Center. The Raiders had defeated the Lumberjacks in 26 straight games.
Mike Lennon finished the Northland comeback in the extra session at the 3:33 mark by knocking in a pass from the left point. Brandon Fehd, Thomas Greene and Zeke Yslas each scored in the third period as the Lumberjacks tied the game. Yslas' game-tying goal came at the 16:05 mark of the third.
Smith started the scoring just 1:30 into the first period. After a goal by Louis Labbe, Smith put the Raiders on top with 15 seconds left in the first. Sophomore forward Kevin LoGiudice made it a two-goal game just over 2:30 into the second period. Smith finished off his hat trick in the third period on an unassisted goal.
Smith along with fellow seniors Jordan Keizer, Bradley Tierney, Kevin Smith, Carl Lindblad, Nathan Brunk, Mike Pao and Ryan Peterson were honored in a ceremony before the game.
