No. 10 MSOE hockey advances to MCHA Harris Cup Four after mini-game victory

Sophomore forward West Bauman scored at the 11:25 mark of the second overtime in the MCHA First Round mini-game to send the Raiders into the MCHA Harris Cup Four. Lake Forest defeated No. 10 MSOE 6-4 Sunday afternoon to force the mini-game at the Kern Center in Milwaukee. The Raiders outshot the Foresters 25-8 in the mini-game. MSOE (20-6-1) will face Marian Saturday in Adrian, Mich. in the MCHA Semifinals.
MSOE got out to a 3-1 lead against Lake Forest with goals from sophomore defenseman Michael Thompson, sophomore forward Austin Grosvenor and freshman forward Kevin LoGiudice in the second period. The Foresters led the game 1-0 after the first period. Lake Forest tied the game at 3 after two third period goals in the first ten minutes. The second tally came during a five-minute power play.
During that same power play, sophomore defenseman Devin Schmitt netted a short-handed goal to put the Raiders back on top 4-3. However, the Foresters logged another power play goal to tie the game and less than a minute later took the lead for good. Lake Forest recorded an empty net goal to seal the game with 14 seconds left. Senior goalie Connor Toomey made 27 saves for MSOE.
