MSOE wrestling team pins down All-American status
MSOE grapplers Austin Binish, Austin Karls and Mathew Ostovich were honored recently by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) as Academic All Americans. The team itself was lauded top 25 status among NCAA Division III programs, ranking 24th with a combined 3.1672 grade point average. This is the team’s tenth time in 12 years receiving this distinction.
Individually, Binish, a junior software engineering major, carries a 3.38 GPA and wrestles at 133 pounds. For the season, he had a 23-15 overall record and placed fourth in the Great Lakes regional. He also was runner-up in the Northern Wrestling Association (NWA) Tournament.
Karls, a sophomore mechanical engineering major, has a 3.34 GPA and wrestles in the U285-pound weight class. On the year, Karls had a 28-18 dual meet record and placed fifth in the Great Lakes Regional. He also was runner-up in the NWA Tournament.
The junior architectural engineering major Ostovich has a 3.32 GPA and wrestled at 141 pounds. He ended the 2011-12 campaign with a 24-12 record. The Raiders finished the season as co-champions of the NWA.
