Senior Emily Dieringer and junior Kate Herrmann are poised to lead the way for the MSOE women's track & field team as they are set to begin their 2011 indoor season. Dieringer and Herrmann combined for 35 of MSOE's 52 points at the 2011 Northern Athletics Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Dieringer took home the top spot in the 55-meter hurdles (8.89) and the 200-meter dash (27.02). She also took the NAC titles for those events in 2010. Dieringer finished second in the pole vault (2.9 meters) last season. She owns the MSOE record for the 60-meter dash and pole vault. Junior Holly Phelps will once again compete as a sprinter, jumper and some long distance events for the Raiders this season. Freshmen Anna Le and Kathryn Davis will compete for MSOE as sprinters as well.
The Raiders will be strong in long distance events. Herrmann was fourth in the 5000-meter run (19:59.77) and came in eighth in the 3000-meter run (11:41.13) at the NAC event last year. Herrmann has the MSOE record for the 1000-meter run. Another long distance with experience is junior Anete Zagare who was eighth in the 800-meter run (2:38.44) and 11th in the one-mile run (5:56.29). Zagare will also take part in jumping events for MSOE. Senior Amanda Heller being back on the team will be a huge lift. Heller was second in both the 3000-meter run (11:15.20) and the 5000-meter run (19:43.34) at the 2010 NAC Championships. She holds the school records for those events and was part of the distance medley team that set the MSOE record in 2009.
The season for the Raiders starts at the Private College Invitational in Kenosha, Wis. Saturday, Jan. 14. The NAC Indoor Track & Field Championships are Saturday, Feb. 25, also in Kenosha, Wis.
