Men’s Golf one stroke out of first in NAC Championship

Haven, Wis.--The MSOE Men’s Golf team hangs just one stroke back after the first round of the Northern Athletics Conference Men's Golf Championship. Defending champ Edgewood's College leads the event with a score of 312, followed by MSOE (313), while Marian is three back at 315 and Lakeland eight back at 320.

Wisconsin Lutheran sits in fifth at 327, followed by a tie for sixth as Concordia Wisconsin and Dominican carded first round scores of 335. Benedictine in in eighth at 338, rounded out by Aurora's 341 and Rockford's score of 376.

MSOE’s Jacob Phelps (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem H.S.) shot a three-over-par 75 and Miguel Garcia (Gijon, Spain/El Piles) scored 76 to tie for third and fifth, respectively. Other Raiders scorers include Scott Loftus (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) with a +5, 77 (t-7th), Dan Wagner (Delafield, Wis./ Kettle Moraine) tallied an 85, (t-30th) and Victor Aeillo (Kenosha, Wis./ Tremper) landed a 95, tying him for 45th overall.

The first two rounds were scheduled to take place at Whistling Straits Irish Course, but due heavy rain on Sunday, the first round was moved to Monday and the second round was postponed to the spring with the third and fourth rounds at Stonebridge C.C. in Aurora, Ill. The winner will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, where MSOE has represented the conference in both 2009 and 2011.
