Toomey earns weekly MCHA honor again

MSOE senior goaltender Connor Toomey has been named Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week. This is the 11th time that Toomey has garnered this honor during his career.

Toomey made 26 saves Tuesday night against St. Mary's in a 2-1 overtime loss. During that game, he broke Matt Burzon's school record for saves in a career. Last Wednesday, Toomey recorded his eighth career shutout to tie Burzon's MSOE record. He had 20 saves in the 6-0 win. On the week, Toomey had a save percentage of .958 and a goals against average of 1.00.

This week, the Raiders are ranked 12th in the United States Collegiate Hockey Online (USCHO.com) Division III national poll. Freshman forward Cole Gibson scored during both games against the Cardinals and now leads the nation in points per game among rookies.

Friday night, MSOE hosts Lake Forest at 7:05 p.m. at the Kern Center. The Raiders travel to Lake Forest, Ill. to play the Foresters at 7 p.m. Saturday.
