Raiders take four-set match against Lourdes

The MSOE men's volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday at the Kern Center. The Raiders defeated Lourdes in four sets (21-25, 25-21, 26-24, 25-21) in the evening match in Milwaukee. The day started with a three-set loss against Lindenwood (25-22, 25-23, 25-15).
In the match against Lourdes, senior opposite Max Martin recorded 14 kills with a .324 hitting percentage and five blocks. Martin also had six digs as did junior libero John Cote and senior outside hitter John Buczynski. Junior outside hitter Alex Harbour also was efficient with 13 kills and a .320 hitting mark. Freshman outside hitter Nick Manning was in double figures with a career-high ten kills. Junior middle hitter Jack Geary ended up with a .357 hitting percentage and eight kills. Sophomore setter Matt Morrone played all four sets and recorded 47 sets.
The Raiders led the first set 20-19 but Lourdes scored six of the last seven points to take the set. In the second set, MSOE went on a 5-0 to go up 21-16 and then cruised to a victory in that set. Lourdes was one point away from taking the third set when the Raiders scored six straight points to win it 26-24. In the final set, Martin recorded his 13th kill to put MSOE up 22-18 for their first four-point lead of the set and the Raiders go on to take the set by four.
Earlier in the day against Lindenwood, Martin led MSOE with 11 kils. Manning was effective with a .545 hitting mark and seven kills. Morrone had 19 assists in that match while Cote had six digs. Geary and junior middle hitter Brian Main paced the Raiders with three blocks each.
MSOE (2-3) hosts St. Xavier Thursday at 7 p.m.
