Senior Jessica Axt scored four goals as the MSOE women's soccer team shut out Maranatha Baptist 9-0 in a Northern Athletics Conference match Tuesday in Watertown, Wis. Axt now has 23 goals this season which breaks the MSOE single season record for goals which was set by sophomore Paula Bohl last season who had 22. Freshman Gabbie Pung added two goals and two assists for the Raiders.
Axt entered the week leading all players in NCAA Division III in goals per game. She started the game's scoring in the eighth minute with a goal set up by Pung who then scored about 30 seconds later. Three minutes later, Axt netted her second tally to make it 3-0 MSOE. Sophomore Allison Zimont received a pass from Pung to score the final goal of the first half at the 27:08 mark of the game from sophomore Maureen Thompson.
Bohl assisted on Axt's next goal which came 54 seconds into the second half. In the 73rd minute, Pung scored her second goal on a pass from senior Mindy Donald. Axt's fourth and final goal occurred in the 75th minute from freshman Shelby Struble. The final goal was tallied by senior Natalie Villegas.
Junior Emma Lumpe and freshman Emily Jakubiak each played a half in net as the Raiders recorded their fifth shutout of the season. MSOE (7-4, 5-1 NAC) hosts Lake Forest this Thursday in a non-conference match.
